International Access Programme (IAP)

Many international students require some preparation before they start a Bachelor or Masters Degree in the UK. Guildford College offers two routes to achieve the degree you want.

The IAP is a one year academic course at pre-bachelor and pre-masters levels. It is awarded by OCN, a leading UK awarding organisation, offering high quality, flexible, credit-based qualifications. The IAP is accredited by the Regulatory Authorities in England therefore you will receive a nationally recognised qualification and direct entry to the degrees offered. The IAP is also accepted at universities.

The IAP aims:

  • To provide a good overview for a range of subjects that could be studied at university
  • To allow students to apply for a range of university courses
  • To allow students to make an informed choice
  • To ensure students have the essential skills required for university study

Teaching Resources

All teaching rooms are equipped with whiteboards/interactive whiteboards, data projectors and OHPs and have access to VCR/DVD recorders, tape-recorders, photocopying facilities and computers.

A Virtual Learning Environment that is populated with course material which the students can download at any time, and which provides a useful communications tool.

A Learning Resource Centre (LRC) provides a range of information sources and access to computers including:

  • Over 50,000 books, magazines, videos and DVDs
  • Electronic texts (with remote access). Students can access these e-resources when they login to GO and visit the LRC pages
  • Digital and audio-visual equipment
  • Modern computers, a variety of study zones and meeting rooms.

Assessment Methods

A variety of assessment methods will be used such as:

  • Essays
  • Timed in-class tests
  • Group presentations
  • Individual presentations
  • Exams
  • Independent research projects (dissertation/reports).

You can choose either Business or Travel and Tourism. Examples of units you may study:

  • Business environment international
  • Business communication
  • Introduction to finance
  • Introduction to marketing
  • Customer service in travel and tourism
  • Hospitality operations in travel and tourism
  • Sustainable tourism development
  • Developing skills for studying and learning
  • Reviewing and planning for future study and work.
