Guildford College Group in China

Guildford College Group is a Government College in the UK with a long history of academic and vocational success. It has been working overseas in various countries for many years and is approved by the UK Border Agency as a ‘Highly Trusted Sponsor’; which is especially important for students wishing to study all or part of their post school education in the UK.

The Guildford College Group has a range of projects in China offering a variety of opportunities to study in the UK and undertake UK qualifications in China.

With contracts already in place with a number of Chinese universities and colleges based in areas such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, Fujian, Inner Mongolia, Shenyang and Hainan the Guildford College Group has established a representative Chinese office. This acts as a Guildford College Group organisational centre and has a specific focus on Guildford College Group programmes. The local staff are fully trained in our processes including the documentation required for the courses and visa applications.  This office does not work through intermediaries such as educational agents. The office also provides essential support for visits to and from China by academic staff as well as student and teacher groups and can arrange flights, accommodation and letters of invitation from the Group. The centre is in daily contact with the UK and has a local Chinese Director appointed by the College – Mr. He Xiao Dong

Current projects in China include: 

• A new International College in Shanghai; developed in conjunction with a leading UK examination (or Awarding) body called OCN/LASER and offering International University Foundation Programmes which enable successful students to apply for a UK University undergraduate programme. In addition the International College will offer high quality international courses to prepare students for study overseas not just in the UK but also in other English speaking countries.
• The Professional Development Programme (PDP) which is offered in conjunction with several leading Chinese universities to provide a study year in the UK in place of the third or fourth year of the Chinese degree. Options available are in English Teacher Training, Business and Management and Hospitality and Tourism.
• The Group Summer and Winter Schools offer a wide range of short courses which include teacher training and English preparation courses as well as short programmes specially designed to meet an objective agreed with a Chinese institution. A recent course enabled the staff of some of our Chinese partners to work with their UK colleagues in Guildford to increase the effectiveness of their teaching practice and to develop a dual diploma course which enables students to obtain a recognized UK award as well as complete their Chinese diploma.
• The College has co-operation agreements with a university and college in Hainan Island for Joint Programmes leading to UK Undergraduate (Bachelor) degrees.
